Gangsters-Ramon Ybarra Rubio

Synopsis

This book is about the true stories of some of the most famous gangsters in the history, and it talks about some of the films that that have been made about their lives. It also shows how Organised crime started in the United States, even though the origin is Italian and how this new style of life spread all over the world. The first and one of the worldwide known gangster is Al Capone, born on January 17th 1899 and whose origins are Italian. He was one of the most successful gangsters of his time. He is one of the good examples of the second generation of gangsters who controlled organised crime during prohibition, a law which made production, transport and sale of alcohol illegal. He was introduced into a life of crime by Frank Yale, a small criminal in his neighbourhood. Since then, Al Capone started growing as a criminal and he became the “king” of Chicago, as he controlled all the illegal operation in the city. He used violence with people who resisted. In total, he was responsible for more than 300 deaths, but he went to prison for 11 years because he never paid his taxes. While he was in prison, the doctors found that he had very advanced syphilis. This disease attacked his brain and diminished his intellectual capacities. He was released from prison because of his illness and he died on January 25th 1947. Many films were made about his life, like for example The Untouchables.

Personal Opinion
