Synopsis
Aron Ralston, from Aspen Colorado, was a man who enjoyed cycling and climbing, so in his holidays, decided to go to Canyonlands National Park, in the south of Utah, USA. He was very excited to travel there because his favourite writer said in one book that it actually was the most beautiful place on Earth. He had planned all the route and he was completely sure that he would be on time for his friends' party. He started the journey cycling from Horseshoe Canyon, he wanted to visit The Great Gallery, because he was interested in climbing and seeing the paintings of the walls. He finally arrived there, he suddenly heard some female voices and had almost been 18 hours alone so he decided to talk to them. They were about 20-25 years old and their names were Megan and Kristi, they started talking while walking on the track, after an hour and a half he felt that they instantly arrived to the place he wanted to be, so Aron wanted to stop there; they unexpectedly became closer than they thought, so the girls invited him to their van after his climb session, he accepted and said goodbye. He approached to the wall that he was about to climb, he made his first step and put his foot in a no balanced rock, he almost fell and reminded himself that he must be careful. While climbing, he realised that the rocks around him didn't seem very consistent but he didn't care at all. Suddenly, he missed a rock and above him a big one felt directly to his arm, after that, he found out that his arm was trapped between the wall and the rock, he started panicking and didn't know what to do. He had not any communicating items and he had some water and 3 burritos, he would need to wait for help or do something to scape from there, what would he do then?
Personal Opinion
I highly recommend this book, not only because it is a very original and entertaining book, but also because it is based on a real story which thanks to that it is more involving and credible. The part that impacted me the most is when Aron decides to cut off his own arm with a knife after spending almost 120 hours in the canyon.
